Tuition & Scale

Sunnyside uses a sliding scale for tuition. Families are charged a rate based on their adjusted gross income, as reported on their federal tax returns.

 Academic Year

The academic year runs from late August through mid-June. Enrollment at Sunnyside is for the full academic year (with the exception of mid-year enrollments when space is available). Summer programming is available to Sunnyside families and is open to the community as well.

Admission Policy

Parents may apply for admission up to a year in advance of possible enrollment. Children must be at least 18 months old by October 1 of the year in which they enroll. Mid-year enrollment is sometimes available, and is contingent on available space.

In admitting children, we follow a priority list, which gives preference to (in order):
  • Children of minority status
  • Siblings of students currently enrolled at Sunnyside.
  • Former Sunnyside families.
  • Added consideration is given to those seeking full-time care.
Once enrolled, a child's place is assured, regardless of list status before admission. We seek to create diverse and balanced groupings of children. Sunnyside's admission policy and programs do not discriminate on the basis of:
  • race, color, ethnicity, national origin, or ancestry
  • religion or creed
  • sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression
  • disability or known association with a disabled individual
  • pregnancy
  • medical condition, genetic information, or AIDS or HIV status
  • age
  • marital status, familial status, family responsibilities, or parental status
  • military or veteran status, or military discharge status
  • height, weight, or personal appearance
  • legal, political, or recreational activity, or political affiliation
  • place of residence or business, or source of income
  • any other protected class or grounds
The Summer Program is administered separately; enrollment in the summer program does not guarantee enrollment for the academic year.

2018 Summer Session

This summer, we're looking forward to filling our days with simple pleasures and local adventures. Mornings at Sunnyside will feature hands-on activities revolving around each classroom's theme, or exploring local destinations like Look Park, and the Smith College Botanic Gardens and Museum of Art. Afternoons will be relaxed times to rest, tend classroom gardens, enjoy picnic snacks with friends, ride bicycles in our back courtyard, and play in our kids' pools and sprinklers to cool off.

Registration is open now. (see link below)

Preschool Enrollment and Tuition:

There are two enrollment options for Preschoolers (ages 2.9-5):
  1. Full eight-week program. This option allows for morning (7:45 am-12:30 pm) or full day (7:45 am-5:15 pm) enrollment, as well as 3, 4, or 5 day scheduling. Children will participate in all of the theme-based programs. Tuition for this option is based on the sliding scale
  2. One or more of the individual two-week sessions. This option allows for morning (7:45 am-12:30 pm) or full day (7:45 am-5:15 pm) enrollment and requires 5 days/week. The price for each two-week session is $475/morning and $725/full day.

Toddler Programming

Current and incoming Toddlers to Sunnyside are invited to join us for summer fun with Toddler teachers Stephanie and Wolfsong. Enrollment for the full eight weeks is required, and the sliding scale tuition and flexible scheduling apply.
